Stade Francais coach Heyneke Meyer has resigned with immediate effect after a string of defeats in France’s Top 14 league.
This season the club has suffered seven defeats in nine matches and are rock-bottom on the Top 14 standings. Meyer, a former Springbok coach was appointed to the Paris club in 2018.
In a statement on Stade Francais’ website Meyer said:
“It has always been my intention to do what is best for this great club… and with this in mind, I hereby offer my resignation as coach of Stade Francais.
“It has been an honour to coach the club and I have loved my time in Paris. I will always remain a supporter of Stade Francais and wish the club success for the future.”
Meyer’s support staff which includes a few South Africans will likely also sever ties with the club.
