Michael Fred Phelps II is an American former competitive swimmer, born on 30
th June 1985 at Baltimore, Maryland, United States.
His parents are Deborah Phelps and Michael Fred Phelps. He also has siblings named; Whitney Phelps and Hilary Phelps. He is crowned the most successful and most decorated Olympian of all time.
He has broken a record for garnering the most medals in the history of the Olympics. Phelps has a total of 28 medals. 23 are gold medals, in which 13 are from individual events and 16 are from Olympic medals in individual events.
Michael made a historic achievement at the 2008 Beijing Games when he broke fellow American swimmer Mark Spitz’s 1972 record of seven first-place finishes at any single Olympic Games.
“At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Phelps had already tied the record of eight medals of any colour at a single Games by winning six gold and two bronze medals. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Phelps won four gold and two silver medals, and at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, he won five gold medals and one silver. This made him the most successful athlete of the Games for the fourth Olympics in a row.”
Being a force to reckon with, Michael Phelps has continually made impressive results. He is the long course world record holder in the men’s 400-meter individual medley.
He is also the former long course world record holder in the 200-meter freestyle, 100-meter butterfly, 200-meter butterfly and 200-meter individual medley.
Michael has won 82 medals in major international long course competitions. 65 were gold, 14 silver and 3 bronze, which span the Olympics, the World Championships and the Pan Pacific Championships.
For eight-time Phelps has been rewarded the World Swimmer of the Year Award and American Swimmer of the Year Award 11 times.
In 2012 and 2016, he as well received the FINA Swimmer of the Year Award. Phelps earned Sports Illustrated magazine’s Sportsman of the Year award due to his unprecedented Olympic success in the 2008 Games.

According to reports, Michael Phelps’ net worth is approximately $ 80 million as of the year 2021. His salary however varies from year to year. However, financial data shows that he earns about $9.3 million annually, or about $780,000 a month and $180,000 a week.

Endorsements
Endorsement deals are common with Olympic stars and thus Phelps several endorsements deals with major brand corporates like; Speedo, Visa (V) – Get Report, Subway, Wheaties and Louis Vuitton (LVMUY).
He also has inked sponsorship deals with Under Armour (UAA) – Get Report, Omega, Master Spas, Sol Republic, 800razors.com, and Aqua Sphere.
Foundation and Charity work
Michael is also a founder of the Michael Phelps Foundation, which mainly focuses on growing the sport of swimming and promoting healthier lifestyles.
“The Foundation in partnership with KidsHealth and the Michael Phelps Swim School has developed and launched the program which has reached over 15,000 Boys & Girls Club members and Special Olympics athletes with life-saving programming. They have also established the Level Field Fund-Swimming, a grant-giving program that provides funding to uniquely talented swimmers in need of financial assistance, and offers autographed swim caps for charity auctions through Caps-for-a-Cause.”
In the field of business, he has a swimsuit company dubbed MP, which was founded in February 2015 alongside his long-time coach named Bob Bowman.
Phelps’ Family
Like many others, Phelps is a family man. In 2016, he tied a knot to his wife, named Nicole Johnson. According to reports, the two have three children: Boomer Robert Phelps, Beckett Phelps and Maverick Nicolas Phelps.
Apart from his medals, Phelps also has various assets; including the Baltimore Condo, which he later sold to a famous vice president according to reports. He also has several cars namely; Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes-Benz SL63, BMW 760 Li and a Range Rover.
He also has interests in Golf, which he plans to continue his career on.
