Manchester City have made history by winning a fourth consecutive Premier League title today. Pep Guardiola’s side beat West Ham 3-1 on final day to be crowned champions at Etihad Stadium.

The Cytizens needed a win against West Ham to be sure of holding off Arsenal who were also aiming for the title. Arsenal, who were playing against Everton, also won their match but it was City who were on top of the standings at the end of the day with 91 points.

Last season, City joined Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Huddersfield as the only teams to win the Premier League title three consecutive times. Now the Cytizens have achieved something that no other team in England has achieved in history.

It was Guardiola’s sixth title in seven years, and only former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has won more titles in England’s top division (13).

Manchester City could complete a domestic double next Saturday, May 25, when they face Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley. If they triumph, they’ll set another record by becoming the first team to complete the domestic double.

The champions seemed to have lost the Premier League title race on March 31st when they drew with Arsenal at home to trail Liverpool by three points and Arsenal by one points. However, they went on to win their next nine matches to take the top spot and eventually win the title today.

City are undoubtedly the best team in England at the moment and also have quality players in their squad. Phil Foden, who really stepped up when Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland were injured, was recently voted the Premier League Player of the Season.

Haaland, on the other hand, has won the Premier League Golden Boot after scoring 27 goals this campaign. He was also last season’s winner and played a significant role as the Cytizens made history by winning the treble.

How Manchester City Beat West Ham To Win The Premier League

With City needing a win in order to avoid losing the title on final day, there was a bit of tension among fans at the Etihad before kick-off. However, they had confident in their team considering City haven’t lost a single home match this season.

West Ham had nothing to play for as manager David Moyes is leaving and no chance of them getting a European qualification spot.

Manchester City started the match in the best way possible by taking the lead inside two minutes thanks to Phil Foden’s goal. The young midfielder created space by turning away from James Ward-Prowse and then unleashing a superb strike into the far corner.

City were in control of the proceedings and it didn’t take long before they went 2-0 up. Once again it was the talented Foden who made the difference in this clash by tapping home from close range after Jeremy Doku’s brilliant pass reached him.

It looked as if the scoreline would remain 2-0 at half-time but West Ham were handed a lifeline when Mohammed Kudus scored a sumptuous volley.

Pep Guardiola’s side struggled to show their dominance after the break but they did show intent of re-establishing their two-goal lead. Tensions were in the air and it seemed memories of last season’s final day rollercoaster ride against Aston Villa had started to get into the head of Manchester City fans.

Rodri, who has been a key player for City since his arrival at the Etihad, calmed the nerves shortly before the hour mark when he found the back of the net to increase his side’s lead to 3-1. City dominated possession afterwards and eventually won the match to be crowned Premier League champions.
