Will Erik ten Hag make it through to the end of the Manchester United season? The humiliation at Crystal Palace and the United’s seeming lack of conviction in the defeat to rivals Arsenal at Old Trafford have made it less clear.

We look at world class managers that could potentially manage the great Reds for the 2024/25 season.

Graham Potter

Imagine the scenario where Ten Hag was fired by United and the man who failed miserably at Chelsea was brought in to take his place. Potter has a lot of mitigating factors; it is difficult to picture anybody succeeding at Stamford Bridge after the previous season, but before the largest clubs consider the former Brighton manager again, he must undoubtedly reestablish his credentials for the top roles elsewhere.

And imagine how the egos in the United dressing room would respond. After Ralf Rangnick was appointed, several of these boys refused to listen to him since they had to Google the German. It is unlikely that this team will pay attention to Potter.

But Dan Ashworth would undoubtedly be amenable to this nomination.

Roberto De Zerbi

Although Roberto De Zerbi’s reputation has somewhat declined this season, elite teams still find the Italian to be a compelling choice. With an audacious and daring style of play in the Premier League, he guided Brighton into the Europa League for the first time in their history last season.

After Manchester City, Brighton is second in the Premier League in terms of pass accuracy (89%) and fourth in terms of average possession (61%) and the only team in the top three with an average of 5.7 shots on target per game above the Seagulls.

De Zerbi has a distinct and unambiguous style, something Manchester United has not had under the present leadership. The 44-year-old may be prepared to expand on his flexible mindset.

Gareth Southgate

With his experience working with the England manager as the FA’s head of elite development, Ashworth is also open to the possibility of Gareth Southgate.

With the expectation that he would resign regardless of England’s success in the tournament, Southgate is scheduled to depart after this summer’s European Championship. Southgate, who took over in 2016, is England’s most successful manager since Alf Ramsey. Since then, he has guided the Three Lions to both a European Championship final and a World Cup semifinal.

Of course, there is a catch: England has one of the best teams in international football, and some have said that Southgate has taken a more pragmatic approach to developing his group rather than bringing more quality to the table.

Zinedine Zidane

After ending his second stint at Real Madrid in 2021, Zinedine Zidane is still unemployed.

Despite his impressive corpus of work at Real Madrid, the Frenchman has not yet been put to the test outside of the Spanish powerhouse. Together with holding the record for the longest undefeated streak in Real Madrid and Spanish football history (40 games), he is the only manager in history to have won the Champions League and European Cup in three straight seasons.

Despite winning 11 titles in just 263 appearances across all competitions, the 51-year-old has shown patience when it comes to a possible comeback to the game. When asked last week about the upcoming opening at Bayern Munich, Zidane brushed off ideas that he would succeed.

Thomas Tuchel

Due to his impending departure from Bayern Munich, he will undoubtedly be considered for many of the top positions that open up this summer. However, the Reds’ search for a long-term manager who can revitalize United may be hampered by his lack of charisma and his experience managing four clubs in ten years.

Has to shoulder a good portion of the responsibility for Bayern’s lackluster season, even though the Harry Kane Curse is mostly to blame. yet nevertheless denotes an exceptional manager who is unquestionably accessible. The rest of this list contains more evidence that suggests United might not do any better.
