- Barca’s president Laporta confirmed Xavi as the head coach for the next season
Xavi Hernandez’s decision to leave Barcelona this summer has taken a turn after the club’s president Laporta confirmed he will be the head coach in the next season. They held a meeting and after being convinced by the president to stay, he accepted the conditions to stay.
The meeting panel included the president and other board members, and it focused on the club’s plans for next season, with the president assuring Hernandez of his support despite a season without trophies.
In January this year, the coach announced his decision on wanting to leave the club this summer, as managing the team has pressure to succeed and around the time of his announcement, the team had not secured any trophies and faced challenges in the Champions League.
The big question is, what influenced him to stay when he had already decided to leave? His meeting with the president reassured him about the club’s support and plans, a reason that might have given him the confidence he needed to continue especially after a season without trophies.
Hernandez is so passionate about Barca and he might have felt that he had unfinished business and another season would allow him to further implement his playing philosophy and achieve success.

Barcelona under manager Xavi Hernandez
Xavi returned to Barcelona as the head coach in 2021 and since joining them, he has instilled his possession-based philosophy at the club, with the team playing attractive, attacking football with a focus on controlling the midfield.
Young players like Pedri and Gavi have flourished under his leadership, showing their talent and potential. During his leadership, the club has shown improvement and they are currently competing for a top-three finish in La Liga.
However, it has not been without challenges because Barcelona has not secured any trophies in his first full season, and this dropped his heart, making him decide to leave the club this summer as all results depended on his effort and he was under pressure to deliver.

Barcelona can be dominant at times but they struggle against tougher opponents. They have been inconsistent in big matches and this raised questions about their ability to compete at the highest level. While their attacking system has improved, conceding goals remains an issue.

Early this year, Xavi announced his exit as Barcelona’s head coach due to pressure from outside about the club’s performance. However, the board and president of the club together with Xavi had a meeting and they agreed that he will remain the manager next season.
