Raheem Sterling is a professional footballer who plays as a winger for Premier League club Chelsea and has been struggling to put up with his previous performance at Manchester City, though he has shown signs of improvement in recent weeks.

New Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has had his back, defending his penalty miss and emphasizing trust in his decision-making on the pitch. There have been periods where he hasn’t lived up to his price tag and was not able to replicate his Manchester City form.

Some of the Chelsea fan base were critical about his performances and he was even booed at Stamford Bridge. He had a recent suspension when he was issued with a yellow card, meaning he will miss the next match.

Well, there has been speculation about a potential sale due to his inconsistent form and fan criticism, but there have been no concrete reports of Chelsea actively trying to sell him. However, he is working on regaining his form and earning the trust of the manager and the fans.

The decision of the club on whether to keep him will be determined by his continued improvement and how he fits into boss Pochettino’s vision for the team.

Raheem Sterling biography

The 30-year-old was born in Jamaica and his family moved to London when he was five years old. His passion for football blossomed in North West  London where he played for local clubs and then moved to Queens Park Rangers where he spent six years.

At the age of fifteen, Liverpool secured his transfer and he spent five years at their academy, making his senior debut shortly after turning 17. Sterling impressed with his attacking style and he emerged as a key player under manager Brendan Rodgers.

His impressive performance earned him a call-up to the England national team and two years later, his talent earned him the Golden Boy award, given to the best young player in Europe. The following year, he had a contract dispute with Liverpool and Manchester City signed him under manager Pep Guardiola. He became a vital part of the team’s success and won four Premier League titles.

In the following season, he was named PFA Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year.

Raheem’s new chapter at Chelsea

In 2022, the winger was signed by English Premier League club Chelsea as he sought a new challenge. He arrived at the club under manager Thomas Tuchel and the initial period involved adapting to a new tactical approach and team chemistry.

While there were glimpses of his trademark pace and b]dribbling, he struggled to deliver end products like goals and assists. This led to some criticism from fans who felt he wasn’t justifying his transfer fee.

Despite his inconsistency, he showcased his talent in moments like he scored a crucial brace against Leicester City and displayed flashes of his attacking prowess throughout the first half of the season.

Recently, Chelsea had a new manager Mauricio Pochettino and the winger seems to find his feet under him. He has shown confidence and contributed more offensively with 2 goals and 3 assists in the last five matches.

There has been progress in recent weeks and his career journey at Chelsea is a work in progress. The new Chelsea manager has given him a shoulder to cling on and so far, there has been some improvement in his performance.
