On Saturday, Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Burnley during the Chelsea vs Burnley Premier League fixture. Mauricio Pochettino’s side failed to take advantage of Burnley’s first half red card and despite going up twice, they allowed the visitors to find their way back into the match.

Cole Palmer opened the scoring for Chelsea from the penalty spot towards the end of the first half. Shortly after the restart, Burnley were level through Josh Cullen who stunned Stamford Bridge with his superb volley.

The Blues thought they had won it in the 78th minute when Palmer found the far corner but 10-man Burnley found their way back into the match when Dara O’Shea rose highest to head home Cullen’s delivery. Both teams had opportunities to win the match but it was level at Stamford Bridge when the referee blew his whistle to signal the end of the match.

Speaking after the Chelsea vs Burnley match, the Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino said they were disappointed and need to improve in many areas if they’re to win matches.

“So disappointed. We didn’t show the consistency and the capacity to deal with and manage the game. We allowed them some actions from set pieces to get some possibility to believe. It is a result that shows that we need to improve in many areas if we want to be competitive.” Mauricio Pochettino is quoted by BBC.

Chelsea’s struggles in the Premier League this season continues but this time more eyebrows will be raised considering the fact that they failed to beat Burnley, who played the whole of the second half without one player. The Blues have a tougher test against Manchester United as they welcome them at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.

Chelsea Vs Burnley

Chelsea hosted Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday with the aim of winning and increasing their unbeaten run against the relegation-based side to eleven matches. While they did increase their impressive run, they failed to get the win they badly needed.

Burnley started the game on a high note, but would have conceded early if goalkeeper Arijanet Muric hadn’t reacted swiftly to stop Enzo Fernandez’s strike from going in. The visitors had their own chance and Dorde Petrovic was forced to show his brilliance to stop Wilson Odobert’s well taken shot from finding the back of the net.

Axel Disasi then thought he had given the hosts the lead in the 20th minute when he scored from Mykhailo Mudryk’s delivery. However, a lengthy VAR check led to the goal being ruled out because he used his hand to direct the ball past the goalkeeper.

The VAR would soon work in Chelsea’s favour as they were awarded a penalty. Lorenz Assignon was shown a second yellow card and sent off for the challenge on Mudryk that led to the penalty, even though it appeared to be so soft. Burnley manager Vincent Kompany did not take the referee’s decision to dismiss Assignon lightly and he was sent off for protesting.

Just a few minutes into the second half, Burnley found the equalizer, thanks to Cullen’s brilliant finish. The 27-year-old midfielder linked up well with teammate Josh Brownhill before scoring from the edge of the box. It was his first Premier League goal.

The visitors had another chance but Petrovic showed brilliance in goal to stop Lyle Foster’s effort from going in. Chelsea would then dominate the game from there but getting the ball past Burnley’s goalkeeper proved to be the main challenge.

Eventually, their efforts paid off in the 78th minute when Raheem Sterling teed up Palmer who scored his second goal of the match from close range. Surprisingly, Burnley levelled the scores despite the odds being against them. O’Shea’s header in the 81st minute rescued a point from Burnley who are still in the relegation zone despite frustrating Chelsea.
