As of now, several tournaments have already been confirmed, including StarCraft 2, Dota 2, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, PUBG Mobile and EA Sports FC 24, formerly FIFA series. With that said, let’s take you through everything we know so far about this mega event, including it’s founders and founding partner.

The Esports World Cup

The Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF) is the organization powering the unique cross-game competition Esports World Cup. It is aiming to take esports to the next level by doing away with ecosystem fragmentation and then creating a centralized platform for the most popular games in the world. Whether you’re into PUBG, Dota 2 or virtual football FC 24, this a centralized place for you to showcase your ability with the controller in your hands.

Apart from transforming the gaming world, the Esports World Cup will see Riyadh transform into a popular global gaming destination where the best gamers from all over the world will be meeting. This year’s tournament is expected to kick off in August and promises to be fun for everyone who will attend.

His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz announced the launch of the mega World Cup event in October 2023.

“The Esports World Cup is the natural next step in Saudi Arabia’s journey to become the premier global hub for gaming and esports, offering an unmatched esports experience that pushes the boundaries of the industry.” Crown Prince HRH Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz is quoted by Esports Insider.

The amount that gamers competing at the event will receive is yet to be mentioned but the prize money will be the largest in history.

The Esports World Cup takes over from Gamers8, the Saudi Esports Federation’s existing esports festival in Saudi Arabia.

Partnership With Sony

Sony was unveiled as a founding partner of Esports World Cup earlier this week, with the Japanese technology firm and EWCF signing a multi-year deal. The collaboration will see Sony actively take part in this year’s event which is scheduled to take place in August.

While commenting on the deal EWCF chief executive Ralf Reichert described Sony as the perfect partner for the organization.

“Sony is the perfect partner for the Esports World Cup… Sony’s experience in creating stunning visuals, engaging music, compelling storytelling, and state-of-the-art technology will be a game-changer for the Esports World Cup.” Ralf Reichert is quoted by SportsPro.

Sony Music Entertainment will produce an anthem for the World Cup while Sony Pictures Entertainment will create a behind-the-scenes documentary series covering the event, including the players and games.
