  • He is Real Madrid’s coach
  • He is being pursued by the Spanish authorities for tax fraud
  • He might face five years in prison for the fraud offence

Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid’s coach is under scrutiny and maintains innocence for having a fraud case where he defrauded 1 million Euros in 2014 and 2015, and prosecutors say that that offence is punishable by five years of imprisonment.

Most Spanish football superstars have faced tax evasion trials and in Ancelloti’s case, it’s no different, he might face a trial that will either be successful or he might face a five-year jail term.

Ancelloti is the latest case to face the charges for not paying his fair share in taxes, and for trying to hide some of his earnings. However, he can win the case in court or make a deal to avoid trial.

Most footballers in Spain have been under scrutiny and the steady stream of celebrities have been dragged in front of a judge as tax cheats coincided with Spain’s slow recovery from a painful economic downturn.

Spanish prosecutors allege Ancelloti did not declare income from his image rights during his first stint managing Real Madrid in the 2014-15 season and they suspect he used shell companies to hide this income.

He has two counts of tax fraud, potentially resulting in up to five years in prison. However, he denies wrongdoing and argues he was not a fiscal resident of Spain for the entire period. A Spanish court ordered him to stand trial and based on past tax cases in the country, they could reach settlements with authorities.

He won the European Cup twice with AC Milan and earned 26 caps for the Italian national team, scoring one goal before retiring in 1992, and transitioning into management. His early stints with Reggiana and Parma showcased his tactical mind, before a successful spell at Juventus, which marked his arrival on the big stage.

AC Milan became his defining chapter and managed the team for eight seasons, achieving remarkable feats. He then moved on to Italy though his managerial prowess was limited but also conquered other top leagues as well including Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

After managing Napoli and Everton, he returned to Real Madrid, securing another Champions League in his second season and decorated his managerial position in the competition’s history with four wins.

He is the only manager to have won league titles in all of Europe’s top five leagues: Italy, England, Spain, Germany and France and has won numerous awards.

Carlo Ancelotti’s personal life

The Real Madrid manager was born on June 10, 1959, in Reggiolo, Spain. His father Angelo Ancelloti was a cheese farmer who instilled hard work and discipline in him and growing up surrounded by farmland likely shaped his grounded personality and work ethic.

His football talent caught the attention of Parma scouts who led him away from the farm and into the professional football world at a young age. He was previously married to Luisa Gibellini and together they have two children: Katia and Davide.
