After the most recent Premier League matches, we examine four things that we discovered from the weekend’s schedule.
Manchester United’s woes continue

Manchester United’s inconsistency has been covered up by five victories in six games, with the team’s well-known weaknesses being shown this week in matches against Galatasaray and Newcastle. Erik ten Hag’s squad was relegated to a 1-0 defeat at St. James’ Park, which was a favorable result considering their terrible performance.
Anthony Gordon’s goal ended the match, as Newcastle dominated the game from beginning to end. Another road loss against elite competition for Manchester United extended their dismal record under Ten Hag.
The Red Devils have lost ten and drawn three away from home against teams in the Premier League’s top eight since their last victory against them in October 2021. Those outcomes from the previous campaign included a 4-0 loss at Brentford, 6-3 to Manchester City, and 7-0 against Liverpool.
The Red Devils were lucky to escape a harsher penalty at St. James’ Park, but their performances have not improved. Newcastle outperformed their rivals in terms of effort and talent, and United lacked the work ethic and grit to keep them at bay. Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford were especially subpar and were substituted on the hour. Ten Hag’s team is far from the top in the Premier League based on this information.
Brave Ange keeps marching

Ange Postecoglou could have easily thrown off his values this past weekend. Depleted Spurs went to the Etihad to play Manchester City; they were without numerous important players, including a recognized center defense.
Since assuming leadership in North London, Postecoglou has garnered praise for his daring style of football, and the Australian has been steadfast in his message: We try to play.
Dejan Kulusevki scored a header to extend his scoring streak at the Etihad, and Spurs were rewarded for their bravery by winning a late point against the champions.
After Yves Bissouma gave up possession in a risky location for Manchester City’s third goal, Postecoglou’s insistence on playing from the back appeared to be costing Spurs, but Kulusevski outmuscled Nathan Ake to equalize. It was 3-3 after the Swede’s goal after a fantastic day of entertainment at Eastlands.
Like most teams at Manchester City, Spurs hung in there for a while, but they were always a danger. Although Postecoglou’s audacious strategies during Spurs’ 4-1 loss to Chelsea last month were criticized for being foolish, he should be commended for challenging the champions this weekend despite all the odds.
Chelsea’s indiscipline
Chelsea had their captain dismissed needlessly for the second week in a row. Chelsea crumbled at St. James’ Park to lose 4-1 last weekend after Reece James was sent off for two yellow cards at Newcastle.
Afterwards, in the first forty-five minutes of the match against Brighton, stand-in captain Conor Gallagher received two yellow cards, making him the third Chelsea player to be sent off this season. After colliding with former teammate Billy Gilmour to receive his marching orders, the 23-year-old has enough experience to know better.
Only minutes earlier, a goal by Facundo Buonanotte had pulled Brighton back into the match, and until that moment, Chelsea had been playing better, but Gallagher’s red card threatened to ruin things. Thankfully, the England midfielder was absent from the game and the Blues rallied to secure a crucial three points.
The young team under Pochettino has to work on its reckless moments, but the Argentine coach will be happy with the response this weekend.
Burnley’s impressive win

Burnley got off to a fantastic start against Sheffield United after suffering a heartbreaking late loss to West Ham the previous weekend, scoring goals in just 15 seconds.
After that, the Clarets’ confidence increased and they were able to play without restraint against their relegation opponents. Burnley triumphed 5-0 for the first time in the Premier League era thanks to goals from Zeki Amdouni and Luca Koleosho, who will be a huge asset as summer additions.
Burnley had already dropped six of their last seven games at Turf Moor this season, but their victory over their fellow struggling teams lifted them off the bottom of the standings.
Considering that Everton also triumphed this past weekend, this victory was crucial in keeping Kompany’s charges in contention for safety.
