Max Verstappen broke the record after winning the Mexican Grand Prix, his 16th race win in a single season.

The two accidents involving Kevin Magnussen and the popular Sergio Perez—the Mexican arriving at the first corner—were the main topics of conversation.

Perez tried to drive from fifth to first and around the outside, but he ran out of room as he drove into the Ferrari and ended the race ahead of Leclerc, who had Verstappen inside him.

At the halfway point of the race, Magnussen crashed heavily into the barrier, causing his car to briefly catch fire and damage the wall. As a result, the race was stopped, and drivers exited their vehicles in the pit lane while marshals made the situation safe.

Dominant Verstappen

The Red Bull driver, who started the race from third on the grid, took the lead early on and went on to dominate it, despite a protracted red flag delay caused by Kevin Magnussen’s heavy Haas accident.

Starting from pole position, Charles Leclerc finished ahead of his Ferrari colleague Carlos Sainz in third place, while the 26-year-old Dutchman finished 13.875 seconds ahead of a revitalized Lewis Hamilton in sixth.

After starting from 17th on the grid and making an incredible run through the field, Lando Norris finished a magnificent fifth for McLaren, ahead of George Russell in the second Mercedes.

Verstappen achieved his sixth victory in Mexico and an equal-record 18th podium finish this year, while the unfortunate Leclerc suffered his 11th consecutive defeat after crashing into Sergio Perez’s Red Bull at the first corner.

Much to the dismay of his native Mexican supporters, Perez spun off, came back, and retired in front of a sizable audience at the high-altitude Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

After finishing ahead of Oscar Piastri in the second McLaren, Alex Albon of Williams, and Esteban Ocon of Alpine, Daniel Ricciardo did a commendable job for Alpha Tauri.

Hamilton ‘incredibly proud’ of the team

Following his impressive second-place result in the Mexico Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton remarked on Sunday that he was “incredibly proud” of his Mercedes team. Hamilton had been disqualified in Texas.

At the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, Hamilton duplicated the performance from seven days earlier at the United States Grand Prix, finishing 2.2 seconds behind Red Bull’s three-time winner Max Verstappen.

He remarked, “Honestly, I wasn’t expecting that today.” “And it feels fantastic to be moving forward, placing one foot in front of the other.”
