French top-flight club Nantes have signed Nigerian winger Moses Simon, it was announced on Tuesday.

The contract is a four-year deal which keeps the player at Nantes until 2024.

Simon was already on loan from Spanish La Liga side Levante after he made just 19 appearances for the team since joining in 2018, and an impressive first season for the French outfit sealed the deal for the African export.

Not only did the 24-year-old impress in his first season for Nantes, but he was also named player of the season for the club. The move to sign Simon on a permanent deal quickly became the obvious choice.

One of the reasons, Simon may have struggled in his time at Levante was his trouble with the Spanish language he hinted.

“At Levante, I did not play very well due to some circumstances with the coach. In Spain, the coach only spoke Spanish and I needed a translator,” Simon was quoted as saying on goal.com.

“It was easier to play in France because I understand the language more and communication is very good with the coach.

Simon scored nine goals and provided eight assists from the 30 matches he played for Nantes during the 2019/2020 season.

“I am enjoying my football now. The most important thing is to play. Not to sit on the bench. To have the freedom to play, have the freedom to speak and to do what you know how to do best.”
