Johnson, an NBA legend turned down opportunities to buy teams like the Golden State Warriors, Atlanta Hawks, and Detroit Pistons.
Johnson claims that up to this moment, his devotion to the Lakers has prevented him from competing for other clubs’ ownership.
He feels getting into NBA ownership now would be intriguing and the Knick is the only one team he is interested in.
“The only team I would actually probably think about is the New York Knicks. I think because of the way fans love basketball you might have to think about that one, because I love coming to New York and going to the Garden and watching the Knicks play,” reports CBS Sports.

According to Johnson, the passion and vibrancy that New York Knick fans exude impress him so much and that is the reason he wants to be a part of them.
“I love being with fans who are so passionate about their team and the Knick fans are, and they’re smart. They’re smart basketball fans and so that one I would have to think about. I think that other than that, I would probably never think about ever being a part of another franchise.”
Johnson says that James Dolan, the current owner of the Knicks, has never brought up the subject of selling the team nevertheless.
But if he got the opportunity now, he wouldn’t think twice about it. However, he remains loyal to Los Angeles Lakers despite his great admiration for the Knicks.
Johnson played for the Lakers for 13 seasons. From 1979 to 1991 and again from 1996 to 1996. He led the Lakers to five NBA championships (1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, and 1988) and was named Finals MVP three times.
He was also a 12-time All-Star and a nine-time member of the All-NBA First Team. Johnson retired from the Lakers in 1991 after announcing that he had contracted HIV. He returned to the team in 1996 for a brief stint before retiring again.
