Adaora Elonu is a Nigerian-American professional basketball player and a member of the Nigeria women’s national team.

She played college basketball for Texas A&M where she won an NCAA Championship. She has played professionally in Israel, Spain and Turkey.

Elonu has been a key member of the Nigeria women’s national team and she won gold at the 2017 Afrobasket championship previously, she had won a bronze at the Afrobasket championship.

She is currently playing for the CB Avenida in the Spanish Liga Femenina de Baloncesto. The player joined the team after leaving Nadezhda Orenburg of the Russian PBL league following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Educational Background

Adaora Elonu attended Elsik High School in Houston, Texas where she was a McDonald’s All-American nominee in basketball.

After graduating from high school, she joined Texas A&M University where she played college basketball and won a national championship with the team.

Elonu graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in allied health. She is currently working on a master’s degree in health education.

Personal Life

Adaora Nnenna Elonu was born on April 28 1990 in Houston, Texas to Chinedu Elonu Sr. and Ogechukwu Elonu. She has four siblings. Her father is a civil engineer while her mother is a nurse.

Her brother Chimelu is a professional basketball player who played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, New Orleans Pelicans, Atlanta Hawks and Zhejiang Lions and is currently a free agent.

The player started playing basketball at a young age leading her high school team to the state championship game.

After high school, she attended Texas A&M where she played college basketball for Texas A&M Aggies helping them win the national championship.

She was drafted in the 2011 WNBA draft by the Minnesota Lynx where she played for one season before leaving for Israel and has since played professionally in Spain and Turkey.

She is also a member of the Nigeria women’s national basketball team and has competed in the FIBA Women’s World Cup, the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket and the Olympic Games.

Career

Adaora Elonu’s career began at Elsik High School in Houston, Texas. She then continued with her career at Texas A&M University where she won a national championship.

After college, Elonu was drafted by the Minnesota Lynx in the second round of the 2011 WNBA draft, where she played for one season before leaving for Israel.

Elonu has since played professionally in Spain and Turkey. She currently plays for CB Avenida in the Spanish Liga Femenina de Baloncesto.
