Benjamin Mwaruwari is a former professional football player from Zimbabwe who played as a striker. He started playing locally at the age of five and then moved to Europe to play for club Zurich.

The striker was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and began his career at Jomo Cosmos, a South African club.

He then moved to Europe where he joined Grasshopper Club Zurich, a Swiss club and a year later he moved to Auxerre, a French club.

The striker then joined an English club Portsmouth and helped the club win the FA Cup in 2008. The same year, he moved to Manchester City and played for Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers before returning to Portsmouth.

He then returned to South Africa to play for Chippa United and Bidvest Wits. He retired from professional football in 2014.

Mwaruwari is one of the most successful footballers from Zimbabwe having played in various top leagues around the world and won several trophies.

The striker also represented his country internationally.

Educational Background

Born and raised in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Mwaruwari attended Nketa High School in Bulawayo where he did so well in his high school exam.

He was then enrolled on the University of Zimbabwe but it is not clear what he studies at the University.

Mwaruwari comes from a very humble background and his education would have been affected by this since he started working at a very young age to support his family.

Personal Life

Benjamin Mwaruwari was born on August 13, 1978, in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe to his Zimbabwean parents and he has eight siblings.

His father was a bricklayer while his mother was a housewife and growing up was a real struggle for the family.

The player started playing at the age of five years and was spotted by a talent scout while playing for a local youth club and was eventually called up to the Zimbabwe national team.

He then moved to Europe to join club Zurich and then to France where he joined Auxerre and spent four seasons with the club before joining the English club Portsmouth and then to South Africa.

Mwaruwari retired from playing football in 2014 and became a football agent, also involved in several business ventures in his country.

The former player is married and blessed with two children. He also founded the Benjamin Mwaruwari Foundation which helps underprivileged children in his country.

Benjamin Mwaruwari is a former professional football player from Zimbabwe and he played as a striker.

At Auxerre, he won the UEFA Intertoto Cup before leaving for Portsmouth helping the club win an FA Cup. The striker then joined Manchester City, Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers and Bidvest Wits before retiring from his football career as a player in 2014.

Mwaruwari was capped 24 times by the Zimbabwe national team and scored 13 goals. He is Zimbabwe’s leading scorer in the Africa Cup of Nations with three goals.

Mwaruwari retired from his successful football career in 2014 and since then, he has been involved in day to day running of his business ventures.

He is also the founder of the Benjamin Mwaruwari Foundation which helps underprivileged children in his country.
