Born in Tulle, Laurent Koscielny began his football career playing for the youth teams of local clubs. He spent time at Tulle Correze, Brive and Limoges before moving to Guingamp.
After a season with the youth team of Guingamp, Koscielny made his senior debut in 2004. He spent three seasons with the French side before moving to Tours. He left Guingamp after becoming frustrated at being played out of position as a right back.
Koscielny joined Tours for an undisclosed fee and soon established himself as the team’s star player at the heart of the defence. He helped the team secure promotion to Ligue 1 and was included in Ligue 2 Team of the Season.

Following his impressive performance, Koscielny attracted the attention of Lorient who signed him in 2009. In his only season with the French outfit, Koscielny established himself as one of the best defenders in Ligue 1.
On 7 July 2010, the former France international secured a transfer to Premier League giants Arsenal. Arsene Wenger signed him because he added height to the team and Arsenal were low on centre backs.
Koscielny spent nine years at Arsenal, winning three FA Cups and one FA Community Shield. He then joined Bordeaux in 2019 and ended his playing career in 2022.
