Early Life
On June 23, 1976, Patrick Vieira was born in Dakar, Senegal. Vieira’s family relocated to Dreux, a town in north-central France when he was eight years old.
When he was just nine years old, he joined AS Dreux, a neighborhood club. Despite his skill, Vieira encountered prejudice and discrimination from a few of his fellow players and coaches because of his African ancestry. Scouts from other teams took notice of him, and finally, he was signed to play for the young team of FC Tours, a French professional club.

Vieira spent the first year of his professional career (1994–1955) playing for French club Cannes. Vieira was signed by Italian juggernauts AC Milan following a good first season at Cannes. He only participated in two league games before being loaned out because he had trouble getting playing time on a squad with several talented players.
Arsenal of the English Premier League paid £3.5 million to acquire Vieira in 1996. He rapidly became an important member of the Gunners, contributing significantly to their victories in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Vieira won three Premier League championships, four FA Cups, and was a member of the “Invincibles” club that went undefeated in the 2003–04 season during his tenure at Arsenal, he made more than 400 appearances.
Vieira was acquired by Italian club Juventus in 2005 for a sum of €20 million. He contributed to the team’s Serie A championship during his successful first season with the organization. Inter Milan, a team that competes with Juventus, paid €9 million to get him. He was crucial to Inter’s Serie A championship triumphs in 2007, 2008, and 2009. Additionally, Vieira brought home two Italian Cups with the team.
Vieira joined Manchester City in 2010 and stayed there for two years. During his second year with Cityzens, he won the FA Cup. At the conclusion of the season, he announced his retirement at the age of 35.

In November 1997, Vieira made his international debut for France against the Netherlands in a friendly game. He was a member of the French team that competed in the 1998 World Cup, where he was crucial to France’s victory and helped them win the tournament for the first time.
The French team that won the Euro 2000 was led by Vieira, who scored the game-winning penalty against Italy in the final match. Additionally, he was a member of the 2001 Confederations Cup-winning squad.
He participated in the 2002 World Cup, but France was eliminated early on. He participated in Euro 2004, a tournament in which France advanced to the quarterfinals but fell to Greece. Vieira was a key member of the French team that advanced to the 2006 World Cup final but lost to Italy. He was selected for the FIFA World Cup All-Star Team and started every game throughout the competition.
He participated in Euro 2008 as well, but France lost in the group stage. After 107 appearances and six goals for the French national team, he retired from international football in 2010.
