Yuvraj Singh began his cricket career at the age of eleven in Punjab. At first he was so bad that he got bowled on a full toss delivery that Navjot Singh Sidhu, former Indian cricketer, thought that Singh would not make it in cricket. Singh became a member of the Indian cricket team in ODIs in 2000. He made his international debut in an ODI match against Kenya. Three years later, he made his Test match debut.

During the inaugural ICC World Cup Twenty20 in 2007, Singh played a pivotal role as India emerged victorious. He scored 148 runs and took six wickets, including memorable innings of 70 runs off 30 balls against Australia in the semifinal.
