  • Romeo Lavia has been a strong target of Liverpool in the summer transfer window
  • Liverpool have seen three bids rejected by Southampton for the midfielder
  • Chelsea has now entered the race for Lavia and have sent their bid to Southampton

Chelsea is making a concerted effort to secure the highly sought-after midfielder Romeo Lavia from Southampton, initiating a bid amounting to £48 million. As part of their strategy to reinforce Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield options, Chelsea is actively pursuing Lavia, who has emerged as a prominent target for the club.

Amidst their pursuit of Lavia, Chelsea is concurrently engaged in negotiations with Brighton & Hove Albion regarding the potential acquisition of Moises Caicedo. However, despite several bids, discussions with Brighton have yet to yield an agreement. In the midst of these ongoing negotiations, Chelsea has set its sights on Lavia, with the intent to strengthen their midfield lineup further.

Chelsea’s interest in Lavia is longstanding and has been driven by the club’s co-director of recruitment and talent, Joe Shields. Shields played a pivotal role in bringing Lavia to Southampton in 2023, making him an integral part of the player’s journey.

Southampton is navigating a period of transition, having already agreed to sell their captain, James Ward-Prowse, to West Ham United for a sum of £30 million. Given these developments, Southampton is seeking £50 million for Lavia, a talented Belgian prospect. Moreover, Chelsea’s offer of £48 million falls short of this valuation but stands as the most substantial bid Southampton has received throughout the current summer transfer window.

However, Liverpool has emerged as a contender for Lavia’s signature, occupying a position of prominence in the pursuit of the 19-year-old midfielder. However, their attempts have encountered repeated setbacks, with three bids rejected by Southampton. Liverpool’s most recent bid for Lavia was valued at £45 million, signaling their earnest desire to secure his services.

Sources close to the situation indicate that Southampton is increasingly confident that their asking price of £50 million will be met by one of the interested parties vying for Lavia’s signature. The club remains steadfast in its stance and is unwilling to compromise on the valuation, believing that the market’s interest in the young midfielder warrants their desired price.
