Former FKF Premier League champions Tusker FC have released several players as their rebuild towards the new season continues.

South Sudanese international David Majak, midfielder Shami Mwinyi, Tanzanian defender Kalos Kirenge, goalkeeper Michael Wanjala and defender Kevin Monyi have all been confirmed to have exited the club.

All, apart from Majak, are leaving at the end of their contracts. The South Sudanese had two years left on his contract with Tusker, but has asked to seek a new challenge.

Speaking after his exit was confirmed, defender Kevin Monyi said he was happy with the three seasons he played at Tusker.

“It was a great time, winning the league twice in a row. Last season was really difficult at the end, but I will always cherich the positive memories at the club,” noted Monyi.

Macharia was the club’s longest serving player, having been with the Brewers since 2015. He won two league titles while with the Brewers, and will now seek a fresh challenge upon the expiry of his contract.

“I want to thank the team, from the brand, management, coaches and my fellow players for the past seven years I have been at Tusker FC. I am who I am today because of this club and I want to sincerely pay gratitude where it is due. I have enjoyed every moment, from the 2016 double season to our league winning run in 2021. It is time for me to seek a fresh challenge and I want to wish the club all the best in the new season. Thank you Tusker FC, forever in my heart,” Macharia said as he bid the club goodbye.

Meanwhile, skipper Humphrey Mieno is also set to leave the club, though they are yet to confirm. Mieno is yet to report to pre-season training with the brewers, with his contract ending this month.

The brewers are rebuilding after a devastating end to their campaign last year, where they lost both the league and Cup on the final day.
