Early life

Anthony was born in Massy, France on 5th December 1995. He joined CO Les Ulis, a team known for developing Thierry Henry and Patrice Evra.

Early on, Martial’s skill was recognized, and at the age of 12, he even participated in a trial at Manchester City.

But in 2009, he switched to the French team Olympique Lyonnais. In just 21 games for Lyon’s Under-17 team, he scored 32 goals, quickly making his imprint at the French champions.

In December 2012, Martial, then just 17 years old, made his Lyon debut as a second-half replacement in a 2-0 Europa League victory over Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona.

In a 3-1 loss to Ajaccio, he made his Ligue 1 debut as a late substitute.

Martial went on to make two more appearances, however, in the summer of 2013, the attacker decided to leave Lyon and join AS Monaco.

The seven-time Ligue 1 champions would subsequently earn €28 million when they sold Martial to Manchester United two years later.

In the 2013 summer transfer window, Martial completed a €5 million transfer to AS Monaco, a rival to Lyon.

Anthony committed to a three-year deal with Monaco and made his debut in November 2013 as Radamel Falcao’s substitute against FC Nantes.

During Martial’s second season at AS Monaco, other European leagues began to show interest.

In March 2014, Monaco’s 2-0 victory against Bastia was the first time Anthony scored twice in the same game.

In 48 appearances across all competitions, he scored 12 goals to cap off the 2014–15 season. Monaco extended his agreement to 2019 by adding a more year.

Manchester United raced to sign the France international on September 1, 2015, transfer deadline day, despite the fact that he began the 2015–16 campaign with Monaco.

In September 2015, Martial made his senior-level debut for France in a 1-0 victory against Portugal as a substitute.

The 2-0 victory against Denmark in October 2015 was the France striker’s first start for the national team.

Martial was a member of Didier Deschamps’ team for the 2016 European Championship held on French soil.

He came in as a decisive sub in their 1-0 loss to Portugal in the Euro 2016 final. He had previously played in their group-stage victories over Romania and Albania.

In November 2017, Anthony kicked off France’s 2-2 draw with Germany in a friendly match played at Stade De France.

He was not selected for the France World Cup teams in 2018 and 2022.
