Early life

On May 15, 1997, in Vernon, France, Ousmane Dembele was born. Dembele began playing soccer as a youngster, and neighborhood teams quickly recognized his talent. Before entering the junior program of Stade Rennais FC in 2010, he began his youth career at Évreux FC 27.

Dembélé came off the bench in the final five minutes of Rennes’ Ligue 1 match against Angers on September 6, 2015, to make his first-ever professional appearance.

Prior to being offered a transfer to Germany, he scored a total of 12 goals in 26 Ligue 1 outings for Rennes in 2015–16.

Before being brought in by Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2016, he played for a single season.

On August 14, 2016, Dembele made his professional debut for Dortmund in a 2-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the DFL Supercup. Then, on September 20, 2006, he scored his first goal for Dortmund in a 5-1 Bundesliga victory over Wolfsburg away from home.
