Kigen Mutuma in action
  • Kigen picked second straight victory
  • He moves to 117 points
  • Mathenge Kamundia is second with 100 points

Kigen Mutuma has reminded his race adversaries that he’s hell-bent on winning the Kenya National Motocross Championship title following his second straight wins at Jamhuri Park racetrack over the weekend.

Kigen consolidated his lead on the log after the weekend’s race meeting with 117 points whilst Mathenge Kamundia sits second on 100 and Dylan Hatamga third on 94.

Hard-charging Kigen not only cemented his lead at the top but also  treated spectators on the stands to some scintillating displays.

During the weekend race meeting, Kigen won all the three heats at stake to register a flawless score of 60.

Hatanga came second followed by Kamunda. In the process, Hatanga dislodged Kamundia from second spot on the table.

Notea star attraction in the MX50

Winner Berry Notea was the star attraction in MX 50 although he had to contend with playing second fiddle to his opponents.

Prior to the race meeting at Jamhuri, Notea was lying fourth but his win on Sunday catapulted him to joint second position on the table with Weru while Round 1 leader Urhie Yongo dipped to fourth place after finishing fourth in Sunday’s race.

Notea was literally on fire as he duly tormented his opponents with a superb ride on corners and jumps. After two races, Armani Amani tops the MX50 table with 94.

The MX85 class was one of the hotly contested in the race. Despite Lewis Ogonyi winning the class, Wahome Mutai consolidated his lead with 108points.

Ogonyi leads MX85 class

Ogonyi, who won the third round on Sunday is lying second on 105 ahead of Atete Benzinge who is on 97. Atete finished the weekend’s race in second spot to cling on to her position in the log.

Ogonyi finished second in the first and second motos and had his win assured when he won the third and final moto. Ogonyi’s win on Motocross 3 was phenomenal in the sense that he is only three points off leader Wahome.

The fourth round of the National Motocross Championship is scheduled for June. It will be interesting how the class battles go as the series wears on. Whatever is up the sleeves of the riders will be known when action resumes.
