Ryan Mason has been appointed as Tottenham Hotspur‘s interim manager for the remainder of the season.
Following the humiliating 6-1 loss to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon at St. James’ Park, Cristian Stellini was fired, prompting the decision to hire Mason.
Spurs’ chances of earning a spot in the UEFA Champions League were severely damaged after they gave up five goals in the first 21 minutes. Only four games into his tenure as manager, and less than a month after succeeding outgoing manager Antonio Conte, Stellini was relieved of his duties at the club.

Following his 2014 Premier League debut and development through the club’s academy program, Mason has spent the majority of his career at Tottenham, both as a player and a coach.
Mason was frequently utilized by Pochettino in his first two seasons at Spurs, but the midfielder decided to leave for Hull City before the 2016–17 season because he needed more game time.
He sustained a broken skull in January 2017 though, and his time with the Tigers came to an unfortunate end due to injury. At the age of 26, he was forced to retire from football in 2018.
Mason left Spurs after 53 league appearances and two goals. He also spent time on loan at Yeovil Town, Doncaster Rovers, Millwall, and Lorient while playing for the North London club.
Later that year, he joined the Spurs coaching staff. In 2019, he was elevated to the position of U19 head coach, and in November 2021, Conte hired him to work with the first team.
Previous management
Although Mason won’t turn 32 until June, he has served as interim Tottenham manager twice already, including the final few weeks of the 2020–21 campaign when he was named Jose Mourinho’s replacement.
For the last six Premier League games of the season, Levy looked to Mason, who at the age of 29 became the league’s youngest-ever head coach of a game in the top division.
Prior to being replaced by Nuno Espirito Santo in June, he amassed four victories in his last six Premier League contests, despite falling to Manchester City in the EFL Cup final in between.

Following a head-to-head collision during Hull City’s 2017 match against Chelsea, Mason had to retire at the age of 26.
He made terrible contact with defender Gary Cahill while attempting to win a header, which resulted in him being knocked down on the field.
Before being carried off the field wearing an oxygen mask and sent immediately to the hospital, the former midfielder was attended to for a total of eight minutes.
He was admitted to the hospital for eight days after it was promptly determined that he had suffered a skull fracture.
In order to help cure his terrible damage, he was required to have 14 metal plates fastened together by 28 screws and 45 staples.
Mason told the media about the incident that terminated his career: “I felt like I was there by myself and I jumped to head the ball and get some decent impact on it and then the contact came.
“I recall that I realized it was a significant injury right away because I immediately felt like blood was flowing out of my skull.”

To kick-start Tottenham’s season and get the few victories needed to advance, Mason must substantially boost morale. just as he did two years ago when he oversaw four victories from six league games to secure a spot in the Europa Conference League.
Can he accomplish it? There are plenty of supporters for Mason, a former Spurs player and longtime fan, in the game (including on the team’s current playing and coaching staff), and it seems like he has learnt from his mistakes from two years ago and will be eager to put them into practice. Mason has been coaching for more than five years, but given his young age, it’s simple to forget that.
When he benched the club’s record signing Tanguy Ndombele for the Carabao Cup final versus City, Mason has shown that he was not afraid to make difficult decisions during his brief tenure as manager.
Since his first managerial stint, Mason has gained a lot of knowledge from working with Conte due to his attention to detail, emotional resonance when speaking to the players, and a keen eye for match details.
He would look to use his skills and knowledge to push Tottenham through to the end of the season.
