- Ugandan Patrick Kaddu scored a hattrick on debut
- Gor have a six point gap on top of the league
- AFC Leopards moved third with a win over Bandari
Ugandan Patrick Kaddu announced himself into the FKF Premier League with a hattrick as leaders Gor Mahia thrashed struggling Vihiga Bullets 5-0 at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani.
Kaddu was signed by Gor at the start of the year, but his debut had been held on as the club fought to wade off a transfer embargo from FIFA. K’Ogalo paid off the players who had sued them at the world football governing body for unfair termination of contracts and were thus allowed to field their new signings.
Coach Jonathan McKinstry was delighted that his side picked a heavy win and more so that he was finally allowed to use his new players.
“Overall we are very pleased. We played some really good football. There were some chances we missed and almost left Vihiga back into the game, but we managed to stabilize. Overall 70pc of the game was some good stuff for us,” he said.
The coach said; “Integrating new players is never easy and there’s still some things to do better.”
Austin Odhiambo broke the deadlock for Gor Mahia after 20 minutes, his freekick from distance catching the Vihiga keeper off his line and dinking over him.
Lwasa double lead for Gor
Five minutes later, Lwasa doubled the lead for Kogalo when he ran at the backpost to connect to a Dennis Ng’ang’a freekick and slot home. Lwasa thought he had doubled the lead when the ball was recycled from another Ng’ang’a corner, but the goal was chalked off for offside.
Gor took the 2-0 lead to the break, in a half that they totally dominated.
In the second half, it went from bad to worse for the Premier League strugglers Vihiga. It was Kaddu’s turn to announce himself into the FKF Premier League.
He made it 3-0 with a dinking header seven minutes after the restart, rising unmarked at the edge of the six yard box.
Vihiga were undone by another setpiece, this time Austin delivering a corner that Kaddu easily tapped home from inside the area.
The Ugandan then completed his brace with a well worked team goal from Gor, the move starting off from the keeper and ending with Boniface Omondi floating a cross into the box that Kaddu easily headed home.
The victory sees Gor Mahia open a six point gap on top of the standings and remaining in line to reclaim their crown.
AFC Leopards move to third
Elsewhere, AFC leopards moved to third in the standings after a hard fought 1-0 win over Bandari at the Nyayo National Stadium. Nigerian import Ojo Olaniyi scored the all important goal in the second half as Ingwe continued scaling up the standings.
“Before the game I thought that one point would be good for us because we had five or six players missing. But I knew we could do something and we managed to do well. I am happy and now need to recover and wait for the next weekend’s Cup game,” said the tactician.
In other fixtures, Wazito FC picked up a point in their battle to move off relegation in a 1-1 draw with Kariobangi Sharks.
The Muhoroni-based Wazito were first into the scoring sheet when Collins Neto headed home from inside the box off a long throw before Moses Shikanda equalized for Sharks. The forward beat the Muhoroni keeper at the edge of the box before slapping into an empty net.
Wazito wnet back itno the lead from another long throw by Clinton Bulimo. This time, the Sharks keeper John Otieno palmed the ball into Dennis Owino’s path and the latter slapped home.
Sharks once again fought from down and Patrick Ngunyi scraped back a point with a second equalizer, reacting fastest to a rebound after the Wazito keeper spilled a shot from Paul Odhiambo.
With the result, Wazito remain second from bottom in the standings with 12 points, seven off safety, while Sharks moved to eighth.
