- Argentina World Cup-winning manager Lionel Scaloni will coach the team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup
- The manager has renewed his contract with the Argentina Football Federation on Monday afternoon
- The boss was later named the BEST FIFA Men’s coach in the 2022 FIFA BEST awards
Lionel Scaloni has been named as the BEST FIFA Men’s coach in the 2022 awards hours after agreeing to a fresh contract with La Albiceleste and will represent Argentina at the 2026 World Cup.
Lionel Messi gave Scaloni more than a helping hand as he led Argentina to a World Cup victory in Doha last year.
Although it was their third world championship, Argentina hadn’t won one since 1986, when Diego Maradona was a sensation in Mexico.
Messi was the catalyst in 2022 as Scaloni won his second trophy as Argentina boss after winning the Copa America, scoring seven goals and dishing out three assists.

Although Scaloni’s contract had expired, he had always stated that he intended to continue working, and the announcement of his new contract was made official on Monday.
It indicates that Scaloni will lead Argentina at both the upcoming World Cup and Copa America.
Both the Copa America and the 2026 World Cup will be held in the United States, with Mexico and Canada serving as co-hosts of the latter event.
After serving as the country’s under-20 boss, Scaloni, who played for Newell’s Old Boys, West Ham, Lazio, and Atalanta during a 20-year playing career, was named Argentina’s manager in 2018.
After guiding Argentina to a World Cup victory in Qatar, Lionel Scaloni has been named The Greatest FIFA Men’s Coach for 2022.

After being hired in 2018, the 44-year-old disproved his detractors by leading his team to victory in the 2021 Copa America, ending the Albiceleste’s 28-year title streak.
He and Argentina then won the 2022 World Cup after overcoming an opening-round loss to Saudi Arabia to advance to the championship game, where they defeated France on penalties.
Scaloni thanked his team while accepting the prize in Paris and said: “Bringing happiness to your nation and people is the most beautiful thing. It has no value. They deserve this triumph.”
Scaloni oversaw a comeback effort that saw Argentina defeat teams like Australia, the Netherlands, Croatia, and ultimately France in the knockout rounds after they shockingly lost their opening World Cup match to Saudi Arabia.
