It is Australia’s third T20 title in a row, and the sixth time they have won the tournament in seven editions. The Aussies had previously won the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018 and 2020.

Beth Mooney’s 74-run knock proved pivotal as Australia denied hosts South Africa win in front of a full house at Newlands, Cape Town. The defending champions posted a total of 156 for six in their 20 overs in the final played on Sunday.
Australia captain Meg Lanning said that she is super proud for the performance her side put cross throughout the tournament.
“It is a pretty special effort. All the teams came hard at us, but to be able to perform throughout the tournament I am super proud. It is a special group – not just the players, but the support staff, who put in a lot of work behind the scenes.” Meg Lanning said, as per BBC Sports..
Australia were pre-match favourites, and they just showed their experience by defeating the Potreas, who had made it to the Women’s T20 World Cup final for the first time. But despite the disappointment, South Africa were treated to a memorable tournament.
Speaking after the defeat, South Africa’s skipper Sune Luus thanked the fans for the support they had shown them during the match.
“It’s been absolutely amazing to play in our home ground with so many people watching and the support. We’ve never imagined being in the final and the ground being filled too – thank you Newlands. Congratulations [to Australia]. You guys are annoying. You have been inspiring the world of cricket for so long and you show your class time and time again.” BBC Sports quotes Sune Luus.
Australia Beat South Africa
South Africa initially did well with the ball to limit Australia’s powerful batting line-up to 156-6. This was after Meg Lanning had won the toss and decided she starts first.
Pacers Shabnim Ismail (2-26) and Marizanne Kapp (2-35) did an impressive job as they showcased all of their experience. Ismail cleaned up Ellyse Perry (7) and Georgia Wareham (0) with back to back balls in the final over, with Kapp having already removed Alyssa Healy (18).
But things didn’t go well for the Potreas as Australia’s Beth Mooney anchored the innings perfectly. She managed to strike nine fours and one six in a crucial unbeaten 74 from 53 deliveries.
South Africa tried to fight back but they stumbled to 54-3 in the 11th over. Despite giving the fans a reason to cheer as the match went on, the Potreas eventually lost the Women’s T20 World Cup final. The hosts finished 19 shorts on 137-6.
