Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti refuses to hail Lionel Messi as the greatest player of all time (GOAT).
The manager was speaking at Real Madrid’s pre-match press conference when he said he doesn’t know if Messi is the best in history.
According to Carlo Ancelotti, Lionel Messi’s career would have continued whether he won the World Cup or not.

He confidently told the reporters that they won’t hear him say Messi is the best player of all time. Carlo Ancelotti named Diego Maradona and Johan Cruyff as potential candidates for the GOAT title.
The Italian manager concluded by saying that he is currently coaching the Ballon d’Or winner, who is the best player at the moment.
“It’s difficult to say, I don’t know if he is the best ever. It’s not so fair to say that, because every era has very good players. It won’t come out of my mouth that ‘Messi is the best ever’. I’ve enjoyed so many good players…. And I’ve seen Johan Cruyff play, Diego Maradona. I’m coaching the current Ballon d’Or winner. I don’t know who is the best in history.” Carlo Ancelotti said when asked if Lionel Messi is officially the best player in football history.
The Real Madrid boss also spoke about his players Eden Hazard and Karim Benzema at the press conference.
According to Ancelotti, Hazard is training well and is currently better than he was before the World Cup. Speaking of Karim Benzema, Ancelotti said that he came back to Real Madrid as a motivated person.
Carlo Ancelotti believes Karim Benzema will continue his good form in the second half of the season.
Real Madrid will face Valladolid on Friday at the Estadio Jose Zorrilla. This will be their first La Liga match since November 10, when they defeated Cadiz CF 2-1.
