The 64-year-old wanted Manchester United’s board to sign six big names during the January transfer window. However, the board failed to sign any of the players.
Speaking with the German publication BILD, Ralf Ranginick named Christoper Nkunku, Josep Gvardiol, Erling Haaland, Luis Diaz, Dusan Vlahovic and Alvaro Morata.
“There was no such (transfer) dossier, and it was never wanted by the club…That’s why we were already discussing players like Josko Gvardiol and Christoper Nkunku from RB Leipzig. Those were names that were realistic. We also talked about Alvaro Morata, Luis Diaz, Dusan Vlahovic and, as I said, Erling Haaland when they were still in the market.” Ralf Ranginick told BILD, as per SPORTbible.
Luis Diaz joined Liverpool, while Dusan Vlahovic secured a move to Juventus during the January transfer window. Christopher Nkunku and Josep Gvardiol remained with RB Leipzig as the Manchester United board didn’t push for their signatures.
Erling Haaland ended up joining rivals Manchester City last summer. The Red Devils wanted to sign Alvaro Morata last summer, but the Spanish international opted to remain with Atletico Madrid.
Ralf Ranginick led Manchester United to finish sixth at the end of last season. The German international was to move into a consultancy role at Manchester United after the club signed a permanent manager. Yet, he left immediately after the end of the season after winning just 11 games out of 31.
Manchester United decided to back Erik ten Hag after he joined the club as permanent manager. The Red Devils board brought in five players ten Hag wanted – Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Antony.
When asked about Ralf Ranginick’s comments, Erik ten Hag said he is still in the process of analysing to set conclusions. The Dutch manager is looking forward to working with his players.
Manchester United will be hosting Sheriff Tiraspol at Old Trafford on Thursday evening for their UEFA Europa League Group E fixture.
