The return of the prodigal son

How and why the defender left Sweden for Vipers Sports Club

Intelligent defender Bob Olouch penned a 3-year deal at Vipers SC. He is a former St Mary’s Secondary School student and Kampala Junior Team (KJT) – Rwenshama player. He spent eight consecutive seasons in Sweden where he featured prominently Lüdvika FK, Växjö United and lately Ljungby IF Sports Clubs.

Defender Bob Oluoch, 25, was officially declared a Vipers Sports Club player after the Venoms secured his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) from Sweden on Wednesday, 16th February 2022.

“We are glad to announce the successful acquisition of Bob Oluoch for the next three years. The centre back has been kept from playing for his new club because of paperwork. But it is official that the clearance finally came through.” Vipers published on their official website.

The former St Mary’s Secondary School student and Kampala Junior Team (KJT) – Rwenshama player had spent eight consecutive seasons in Sweden where he featured prominently Lüdvika FK, Växjö United and lately Ljungby IF Sports Clubs.

Upon being unveiled officially, the intelligent defender openly expressed the desire to contribute immensely to Vipers’ success.

Having played in Europe for almost a decade, I bring with me that (European) experience and I know we shall win trophies here because that is what Vipers Sports Club is all about.

The decision for Oluoch to return home and build from scratch might have left many in shock.

But, it should be noted that he is not the first player to leave a foreign-based club and return home to start life afresh.

Midfielder Moses Waiswa (now at SuperSport United) joined Vipers in January 2017 from Sweden.

He then established a cult status at the club before earning the much treasured summon to the Uganda Cranes and later landing a lucrative deal to the South African Premiership club.

Waiswa is a big motivation to the defender. The two players played together at St Mary’s Kitende and in Sweden at Växjö United.

Denis Namanya, the director at Prosper Sports Agency who brokered the deal acknowledges the bold fact that at times, returning home to build afresh is often the best decision to undertake.

When Bob (Oluoch) left for Sweden in 2015, we were all delighted. We kept in close communication for years. Returning home will help him prove further as one of the best defenders of his generation.

The close relationship the Olouch kept with Dr Lawrence Mulindwa, the Executive Director at Vipers also precipitated his return home.

Dr Mulindwa’s fatherly stature to the majority of his former students at St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School, Kitende has always left the door open to many.

It was therefore easy for Olouch to return “home” as it was for Moses Waiswa and Brian “Kaka” Kakaire back in the years.

Olouch’s addition to the Vipers’ squad is good news coming at an opportune timing when the 2021-2022 Uganda Premier League is coming to the final bend as the Venoms lead the standings.

There is now assured squad depth, especially at the central defence department where another new signing Hillary Mukundane was captured from Mbarara City.

The department already had options in skipper Halid Lwaliwa, Bashir Asiku and the rock-solid Livingstone Mulondo.
This explains the decision why Vipers had already loaned two junior central defenders Jacob Okao and Ahmed Amayo to Onduparaka and UPDF respectively.
Vipers visit UPDF this Friday, 18th February 2022 at the Army Military Barracks Stadium (Amayo will not play for loan clauses embedded).
The entire footballing fraternity eagerly awaits the return of Bob Olouch after an 8-year absence since he last featured for KJT/Rwenshama.

Will Olouch make his debut against UPDF? Your guess is good as mine.
