Kieran Trippier move to Newcastle United
England right-back Kieran Trippier move to Newcastle United, he arrived at the training ground to undergo his medical ahead of a move from Spanish side Atletico Madrid this transfer window.
The right-back is set to become the first signing of the Saudi PIF era at St James’ park after agreeing on a transfer worth around the £15m ($20.2m) mark on Tuesday.
According to reports from Spain and England, Trippier left Madrid on Wednesday lunchtime and has now touched down in the North East of England to put the finishing touches on his deal.
It is reported that Newcastle have agreed to pay an initial £12m ($16.2m) to land Trippier, with add-ons taking the fee up to the £15m mark, and the 31-year-old will become the highest-paid player in the club’s history after the move.

There is also not believed to be any relegation release clause in Trippier’s proposed contract, with Newcastle adamant that they can do enough to stay in the Premier League this campaign, especially with the club’s financial ability.
As well as a right-back, they want a central defender, two midfielders and at least one additional forward, but more likely two, with the calf injury to Callum Wilson only exacerbating the need for a new striker.
The Magpies are also keeping a close eye on the transfer market in general and are prepared to take advantage of any opportunities that may arise between now and the end of the window.
Trippier is keen to return to the Premier League and had attracted interest from a whole host of English sides, but Newcastle moved aggressively and early to force their way to the front of the queue.
Most of the 31-year-old’s suitors were unwilling to match Newcastle’s offer to Trippier, allowing Eddie Howe’s side to complete a deal without much competition.
This is Kieran Trippier’s second spell in the English Premier League as he previously played for North London side Tottenham Hotspur before his move to the Spanish capital.
He won the La Liga title in the 2020/2021 campaign with Atletico Madrid, the first-ever trophy in his football career.
Newcastle United is currently sitting 19th in the Premier League table with 11 points, just one behind bottom-placed Norwich City and eight points behind 16th and 15th placed Leeds United and Everton respectively.
