Unfortunately, Great Britain’s Murray and his colleague Neal Skupski were disadvantaged after they were knocked out of the men’s doubles.
The duo was outshined at the tennis event in Tokyo, in the second round. They faced stiff competition against Japan’s Kei Nishikori and Ben McLachlan and lost 6-3 6-4.
As a result, neither Murray nor Neal will be competing in the mixed doubles or singles. After the unfortunate withdrawal of British number one Dan Evans from the Tokyo Olympics, that was when Murray was called up to partner with Skupski.
Jamie, who is gladly a seven-time Grand Slam doubles champion has, unfortunately, failed to go beyond the second round in the previous four Olympics.
Moreover, Jamie’s brother who is dubbed Andy Murray as well had previously stepped back from the men’s singles. The reason for the withdrawal was a minor thigh strain.
However, Andy will be out and about to compete in the doubles alongside Joe Salisbury, according to the Tokyo schedule.
The duo will be facing two Germans Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz in the second round on Tuesday. Just like it is the desire of many Olympians, the eldest of the Murray brothers had been working tooth and nail to ensure that he bags an Olympic medal.
He wanted to scoop a medal so that it can go along with his many Grand Slam tokens.

After the loss, Murray had to express his views regarding the matter and this is what he had to say;
“Disappointed to lose. The Olympics only come around once every four years and everyone wants to do well. “Everyone dreams of coming in and winning a gold medal.”
“It was a tough match for us today, the other guys played very well. Especially at the start, they put us under the pump a bit. It was just a tough day. “In Paris in 2024, I’ll be 38 then, there are plenty of guys still going strong at that age.”
“We’ll see but if I am there, it’s testament to the longevity of my career to play at that level for so many years. We’ll see.”
It is without a doubt sad to lose at the Olympics as many Olympians went to Tokyo with high hopes.
On the other hand, Andy was all out to outshine French No.2 seed dubbed Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert alongside Joe Salisbury. The opening round was well performed and thus resulted in the win.
Next up according to the schedule, Murray and Salisbury are set to play German duo Kevin Krawietz and Tim Putzon on Tuesday. Interestingly, the two are now Team GB’s only chance of a medal in Tennis.
All eyes to them now to see how they will perform and if they will save team GB’s ship.

Known by his full byline as Jamie Robert Murray, the tennis player was born on 13th February 1986. He is a British professional tennis player from Scotland.
Moreover, he is a seven-time Grand Slam doubles winner and a Davis Cup champion and a former doubles world No. 1.
Murray is the elder brother of Britain’s former world No. 1 singles tennis player, Andy Murray.
On to the most interesting part of his career, Jamie has won seven Grand Slam titles.
The titles are in mixed doubles at the 2007 Wimbledon Championships, with Jelena Janković, the 2017 Wimbledon Championships and 2017 US Open, with Martina Hingis, and the 2018 and 2019 US Open, with Bethanie Mattek-Sands, and in men’s doubles at the 2016 Australian Open and 2016 US Open with Bruno Soares.
Additionally, Murray was part of the Great Britain team that won the Davis Cup in 2015, the nation’s first success in the tournament for 79 years.
With his brother Andy, he won the doubles matches in Britain’s quarter-final, semi-final and final victories. The Davis Cup team was awarded the 2015 BBC Sports Personality Team of the Year Award.
