David Alaba departure from Bayern Munich - Sports Leo

David Alaba will officially announce his departure from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich today ending speculations of re-signing with the club.

The versatile defender has been heavily linked with moves away from Germany with top clubs showing interest in the player.

His departure was imminent pending when and where he will be leaving at the end of the summer.

Since the onset of the January transfer window, several elite clubs have tried to get the Austrian international to sign for them as he got into the last few months of his contract.

One Premier League club that was desperate to sign the centre-back was Chelsea who were quite close to land Alaba in England.

The Blues have tabled a £400k a week to lure the world-class defender to Stamford Bridge.

Domestic league champions Liverpool were also eying a swoop for the Austrian star to cover their defensive issues, with the loss of Joe Gomez and Virgil Van Dijk.

The Reds would have completed a double swoop from Bundesliga champions, having signed Thiago Alcantara earlier in the summer.

However, Alaba seems to have set his sight in Spain with La Liga giants Real Madrid offering the 28-year-old a lucrative offer.

The Galacticos’ captain Sergio Ramos is on the verge of an exit from Santiago Bernabeu with both Manchester United and Paris-Saint Germain battling for his signature.

Alaba will straight up fill the void left by Spain international Ramos and offering competition for both the central and left-back spot in the squad.

Alaba can also be deployed in the centre of the park as a defensive midfielder and his wealth of experience would come in handy for coach Zinedine Zidane.

It is reported that Raphael Varane could be on his way out of Real Madrid but Ramos could be leaving sooner.

Bayern have already signed young defender Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig as they look to replace the void to be left by Alaba.
