Manchester United could be eying a potential swoop for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos as they look to strengthen their backline.

United’s top choice centre-back is RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano who is interesting other European clubs.

The centre-half is linked with a move away from Germany with Premier League champions Liverpool also keeping tabs on the Frenchman.

Spanish international Ramos is yet to sign a new contract at Santiago Bernabeu but club’s president Florentino Perez seems to have his eyes somewhere.

The Spanish club have a minor dispute with Ramos in contract terms as they are willing to meet his demands.

The captain demanded a two-year contract at the club but the Galacticos are only willing to give him a one-year extension.

According to reports, the 34-year-old has rejected two contract offers from the club, citing disparities over finances in the contract.

French champions Pais-Saint Germain are also interested in bringing the solid centre-back to Ligue 1 and are willing to meet his demands.

The Red Devils are now looking at Ramos as a potentially cheaper alternative for Upamecano who has a whooping £40million release clause in his contract.

The 22-year-old could be leaving next summer amid other interests from several clubs around Europe.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter on the Upamecano – United transfer saga saying, “Manchester United have never been in advanced talks to sign Upamecano – always been appreciated but ‘unlikely’.

“He’s the main target for Bayern Münich prepared to pay the release clause, Chelsea and Liverpool are still in the race. Also, PSG interest now cooled down.”
