Man United close gap on Liverpool with win over Wolves

Man United close gap on Liverpool with win over Wolves - Sports Leo

Manchester United moved to within two points of Premier League leaders and champions Liverpool after winning 1  0 over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

The Red Devils’ homegrown talent Marcus Rashford got lucky with a deflected shot deep in the stoppage time to give the club victory over Wolves.

The game seemed on the verge of ending with a draw in the final stages until Rashford’s shot hit Romain Saiss to leave Rui Patricio helpless in the 93rd minute.

The victory takes Ole Gunnar Solkajaer’s men to second in the log and gives United a lifeline as potential title contenders after a lacklustre kick-start in the league.

United have garnered 23 points from a possible 27 as they continue their excellent run of form to prove they are still in the hot-heated title race.

Solkjaer had made a bold change, rotating six players from the side that drew 2-all at Leicester City on Boxing Day.

Edinson Cavani ‘El Matador’ was handed his only second Premier League start up front, while Frenchman Paul Pogba returned in the middle of the park.

Wolves coach Nuno Espirito Santo also made changes bringing on Max Kilman, Ki-Jana Hoever, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Vitinha.

They had played 48-hours before at home to Tottenham Hotspur and held Jose Mourinho’s men in a 1 1 draw.

His plan nearly worked out until United found the breakthrough in the dying stages of the game.
