Usyk beat Fury in a split decision and edged closer to history as an unbeaten champion just like Lennox Lewis.  judges scored 115-112, 114-113 for the Ukrainian and 113-114 for Fury.

He nearly stopped Fury in the ninth round due to a standing count. In the startling ninth, Usyk appeared to have Fury standing up, and that was when the momentum changed.

The Ukrainian struck Fury’s jaw with a hard left hook. His entire 6 feet 9 inches tall physique shook, causing him to rock across the ring.

With more crunching punches, Usyk teased him, slamming Fury into one rope set after another. Anger twisted through the strands. He leaned against the rigging, struggling to stay upright.

Convinced that Fury was still standing due to support by the ring’s ropes, referee Mark Nelson dashed in and gave a 10-count. That choice might have been fatal and the bell rang to stop the round and keep Fury from more assault by Usyk.

Fury seemed to be in his most optimal form at the beginning of the fight, surpassing his previous performance for some time.

However, the Ukrainian was more than ready for to add history to his unbeaten record. Since the heyday of Lewis’ reign, boxing has had to wait 25 years to name a new undisputed heavyweight champion.

After accumulating every major world title between them, Fury and Usyk were battling it out to determine who would be the first heavyweight king to go unbeaten in the four-belt era.

Fortunately, the Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury match saw the Ukrainian add the WBC title to his WBA, IBF, and WBO belts.

Why Did Fury Lose to Usyk?

Even at the beginning of the fight, Fury was acting theatrically, despite the significance of the bout and its historic status. In the first round, he stood in a corner and shimmied his body, slipping his head back and forth.

In the second round, he briefly concealed his hands behind his back. However, it was his extended, flickering jab that was making contact, merely diverting Usyk’s focus off the right that Fury periodically probed into the body.

He gave Fury a smile at the end of the second round with a crisp right uppercut across the middle.

Usyk showed no signs of being scared by his enormous opponent. He fearlessly unleashed a thunderous left cross in the first round that arced over and caught Fury’s head.

The Ukrainian boxer kept at it with strong, straight strokes striking Fury’s lengthy frame and he never stopped through the first round of the Saturday night bout.

Fury continued to elude detection by moving along the ropes in the fourth round. However, Usyk unleashed his blows when he cornered Fury forcing the fighter to duck out of the way.

Fury could focus on the Ukrainian’s body once he had a private area to work in. However, he actually felt blood in the sixth round. Usyk took a long, hard right to the head. The crowd responded to the Briton’s efforts as he had to pull away from Fury in order to recover.

In the seventh round, Fury was leading the charge and wearing a gleeful look. He did not sound a note of defiance until right at the finish of the round when Usyk tagged him with his left cross.

However, the fight’s dynamic altered when Usyk injured Fury in the tenth round. The Ukrainian tried to further establish his superiority by strafing Fury’s jaw with his lead hook in the last round.

However, the British fighter fought back to repel Usyk and continued the battle.

Why Did Fury Contest Results?

Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury fight did not go down without a dispute as the British boxer believes that he should have won.

Fury insisted that he won several and more rounds than Usyk which makes him the ultimate winner of the fight.

“I believe I won that fight,” he declared. “I believe he won a few rounds but I won more of them. Make no mistake I won that fight and I’ll be back. We go back to our families and we run it back in October,” he told Sky Sports.

Usyk on his part said his victory over Fury was a win for Ukraine. It was a motivation for soldiers in Ukraine still fighting onslaughts by Russia.
