Davies was born in Buduburam, a refugee camp in Ghana, to Liberian parents who were fleeing from the Second Liberian Civil War. When he was five years old, his family immigrated to Canada. His passion for football began in Ghana and on getting to Canada, he joined the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2, he became the first player in MSL to sign with the club at 15 years old.

With the Whitecaps, he became a key player and this earned him a transfer to Bayern Munich for a then-record MLS transfer fee.
