Tusker dazzle and stun KCB with five goal thrashing

• This was their biggest win of the season
• The victory moved them to fifth in the standings

Tusker FC rose all the way to fifth in the FKF Premier League standings after a brilliant 5-0 thrashing of KCB at the Police Sacco Grounds. Eric Kapaito scored thrice, including a stunning bicycle kick as the brewers put the bankers to the sword in their biggest win of the season.

Levin Odhiambo and John Njuguna scored the other two goals for Tusker, in one of their best performances yet this season.

While it was a massive three points for Tusker, it was an even bigger performance from Kapaito, who has been struggling for goals but now sees his tally climb all the way to five.

He added on the hattrick to the brace he scored against Bidco United last month, and also has three more assists to his name.

“I am very delighted because of the performance. I have been working real hard and I am glad to see the fruits finally coming off. I feel my fitness has really improved and now I want to keep scoring and to help the team achieve good results,” Kapaito said.

Meanwhile, Njuguna was delighted to have scored, his first goal in almost two years, doing so coming off the bench.

The winger was a last minute inclusion into the team after the injury picked by Mike Oduor on the final day of training and he paid that up with a goal and a brilliant performance in the 15 minutes he had on the pitch.

“I am delighted and relieved. I have been working very hard and I was just waiting for the chance to play and I have scored. It gives me a lot of motivation moving forward and hopefully I can get more minutes,” he stated.

The victory took Tusker to 28 points and fifth in the standings, nine points behind leaders Gor Mahia, who they play in two weeks time.

Against the bankers, Tusker were intent from the start as just within three minutes, Kapaito had already stung Gabriel Andika’s palms in the KCB goal. The forward picked up a brilliant cross ball from Boniface ‘Kajos’ Onyango before rifling a shot that was saved.

But, two minutes later, he was on the scoresheet. Kapaito struck a powerful shot from the edge of the box after Onyango’s cross was teed down by Lawrence Luvanda.

The ball struck the underside of the bar and crossed the line before dotting back into play.

Tusker continued to dominate, though KCB had some moments from where they could have found a way back. Brian Bwire had to make two vital saves, first blocking James Mazembe one on one before plucking away Derrick Otieno’s header from a corner off the top left.

While KCB failed to take their chances, Tusker made them pay in the 35th minute when Levin struck a brilliant shot past Andika after being set up by Kapaito, who had made a daunting run from the right before cutting back a cross.

Tusker continued in same gear in the second half, Kapaito scoring his second and Tusker’s third in the most brilliant way. He chested down a deep cross from Tom Teka, before Luvanda teed him up with a looping ball over the defender and the forward scored with a brilliant bicycle kick.

The striker then completed his hattrick 10 minutes to time from the penalty spot, sending substitute keeper Brian Olang’o the wrong way after Shaphan Oyugi had been brought down inside the box.

At the stroke of 90 minutes, Shaphan played provider once again, this time combining well with Stewart Omondi to send Njuguna through, the latter curling the ball beyond the keeper.
