As we wait for the return of the Premier League this weekend, let’s take a look at the most underrated Premier League players this season. While stars such as Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah, Kevin De Bruyne and Bukayo Saka are often grabbing the headlines, there are other players who also deliver but don’t get the praise they deserve.

From Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke to Brighton’s Lewis Dunk, let’s give these players the flowers they deserve for their performance. Here are the most underrated Premier League players after the end of the first half of the 2023-24 season.

Dominic Solanke

After his move from Liverpool to Bournemouth, Dominic Solanke struggled for goals. In fact, the English striker scored just three goals in his first 42 league games. However, that will be quickly forgotten by Bournemouth supporters considering his form this season.

Solanke is currently fourth on the list of Premier League top scorers this season with 12 goals. Well, don’t you think it’s time to stop considering him as a flop and give him the praise that he actually deserves? It’s no debate that the 26-year-old is one of the most underrated Premier League players this season.

Ethan Pinnock

Ethan Pinnock is underrated. While Brentford are dipping in and out of form at the moment, he has been consistent all along. The 30-year-old has been solid at the back and has recorded a total of 107 successful clearances, which is more than any defender in the Premier League. According to Flashscore, the Jamaican has an average rating of 7.2 from his 17 league appearances this season.

Pedro Neto

Pedro Neto has been injured since the start of November, but he ranks second on the list of players with the most assists this season, behind Mohamed Salah and Ollie Watkins. The Portugal international recorded seven goals in ten matches and was a key player in Gary O’Neil’s squad before being injured. While Wolves have been relatively good without Neto, O’Neil will be waiting for his return.

Gabriel

Arsenal have struggled in their last four matches, losing three, drawing one and recording no win. However, we ought to give them credit for their performance since last season and the start of this season, particularly in defence. Whereas the media often gives praise to William Saliba for Arsenal’s defensive masterclass, Gabriel is often ignored yet the Brazilian has been impressive, managing more interceptions and blocks than his partner.

Lewis Dunk

Brighton has produced some exciting talent over the past few seasons, from Leandro Trossard and Moises Caicedo who already secured transfers to top clubs to current stars such as Kaoru Mitoma and Evan Ferguson. While these players have been getting the spotlight, Lewis Dunk has been the man holding it together.

Dunk joined Brighton while they were still in League One, and has been a key member of the club up to now. Many will agree that so much of the Seagulls’ success has been due to his consistency. The 32-year-old has continued to impress this season but doesn’t get the full praise that he deserves.

Alex Iwobi

After joining Everton for £34 million, it initially looked as if Iwobi was never going to live up to the massive transfer fee. However, he slowly built his reputation at Goodison Park and was one of the players who played a significant role in helping Everton avoid relegation last season.

Following his move to Fulham last summer, Iwobi has continued to deliver, scoring three goals in his first 13 league games. That’s more than he scored at Everton and already matches his best tally at Arsenal. Iwobi is one of the most underrated Premier League players this season.

Conclusion

Whilst some players find it very easy to grab the headlines in the Premier League, others actually find it very difficult even after producing stellar performances consistently. The players mentioned above and many others playing significant roles for their teams in the Premier League actually deserve every share of praise and hype.
