Alejandro Garnacho might face disciplinary action from the FA due to a contentious social media post he made regarding teammate Andre Onana.

The 19-year-old sent the since-deleted tweet on Twitter following the Red Devils’ 1-0 Champions League victory over FC Copenhagen on Tuesday thanks to Onana’s incredible penalty save.

There are other instances of the FA penalizing players for violating the FA code of conduct on their personal social media accounts, even if the governing organization hasn’t declared an official investigation into Garnacho’s tweet.

Garnacho shared a photo of himself and his teammates celebrating with Cameroonian goalie Onana after the Cameroonian made the game-winning penalty save against Copenhagen.

15 minutes later he deleted the post and removed the caption.

Onana defended his Man Utd teammate on Instagram as it became apparent that Garnacho’s comments may have sparked an FA inquiry.

Andre Onana demanded that the probe stop and maintained that Garnacho’s post had no bad intentions.

He wrote on his Instagram story, “People can’t choose what I should be offended by.”

“Garnacho meant power and strength.

“This should go no further.”

Will FA take action?

Garnacho argues that he didn’t mean any harm with his “gorilla emoji” tweet, but given the number of other recent instances that are similar, it is probable that he will face consequences.

In 2020, Edinson Cavani, Garnacho’s former Manchester United teammate, received a three-game suspension after posting “Gracias Negrito” to a friend on social media.

Although ‘Negrito’ is occasionally used as a loving welcome in the player’s home Uruguay, Cavani’s message was seen to be in violation of the FA rule of conduct.

The playmaker for Manchester City, Bernardo Silva, was fined $50,000 and suspended for one game in 2019 after posting a picture of himself as a youngster that appeared to have racial overtones with that of teammate Benjamin Mendy.

United’s Sacho saga

Although it seems more probable that Manchester United will sell Jadon Sancho soon, the Premier League team is demanding a hefty transfer fee, which may put off potential buyers.

From the 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest in August, when he entered the game as a substitute with more than 30 minutes left, the winger has not appeared for the Red Devils.

Erik ten Hag claims that Sancho’s lackluster performance in training is the reason he was left off of the matchday squad for the subsequent game against Arsenal.

Given the seeming deadlock in the situation, Man United is “looking to the January window for alternative solutions.”

According to the source, Sancho’s availability to teams in the Saudi Pro League was “made aware” during the summer transfer window; nevertheless, the player expressed no interest in relocating to Saudi Arabia.

Sancho, who the team acquired for £72 million from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, is reportedly valued at £65 million by Man United, however, a loan agreement “may now be viable too.”

Although Sancho has been linked to Barcelona, Dortmund, and Juventus, his £10.4 million salary—or £200,000 per week—would be deemed expensive.
