Career
Chael Sonnen began training in boxing in 1996 while still in high school. He wanted to compete in the UFC upon graduating, but proceeded to Brigham Young University and later University of Oregon in Eugene.
Sonnen was an All-American while at college and tried to become a professional wrestler before turning his attention to mixed martial arts. He even attended a try out for World Championship Wrestling at the WCW Power Plant in 1998.
Chael Sonnen began his MMA career by defeating Ben Hailey in Vancouver, Washington. He went on to win his first six fight before losing to Trevor Prangley.

Sonnen got the attention of UFC with his performance in the octagon and was offered a contract. The American fighter made his UFC debut at UFC 55 in a Light Heavyweight bout against Renato Sobral. He suffered defeat but avenged his loss at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 4, defeating Trevor Prangley via unanimous decision.
Sonnen lost against Jeremy Horn afterwards and was released from UFC. He made his debut for Bodog Fight in May 2006, knocking out Tim Credeur.
Chael Sonnen continued his career at World Extreme Cagefighting before returning to UFC following the dissolution of WEC’s middleweight division. The American had mixed results throughout his career and recorded victories over the likes of Wanderlei Silva, Michael Bisping, and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
