FC Talanta celebrate their win over Posta Rangers
  • Posta were on a run of six unbeaten matches
  • They still remain top of the table
  • Sofapaka won their first game of the season

Alfred Tanui scored a brace as Talanta FC shocked log-leading Posta Rangers 3-1 at the Ruaraka Complex, ending the mailmen’s unbeaten start to the season. Erstwhile, John Kamau’s charges had been on a good run of five wins and a draw, but they were checked back into reality by a hard fighting Talanta side.

Tanui broke the deadlock for Talanta as early as the second minute when he won the ball off pressure on Posta keeper Samuel Njau before slotting home.

It was a perfect start for Ken Kenyatta’s side and the early goal boosted their confidence. They doubled their lead in the 12th minute when Alex Sunga had been appended inside the box, taking responsibility after he had been fouled by Ken Owino.

Posta were rattled and fought back to try get their rhythm into the game and they halved the deficit before halftime, Dinken Mwema heading home from a Titus Achesa freekick.

However, Talanta were not about to let their big day go to waste especially on their favourite ground. And they sealed the victory in the 78th minute when Tanui completed his brace.

Despite the defeat, Posta remain top of the log with 16 points, four ahead of second placed Gor Mahia.

Elsewhere at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, after a run of five consecutive defeats in the FKF Premier League, Sofapaka finally clinched victory, after edging out Police FC by a solitary goal.

Khaled Jumaan scored the winning goal, as Sofapaka registered their first three points of the campaign, in coach Ezekiel Akwana’s second match in charge.

“It is a huge relief and the players really gave a good fight. We had planned on the match for the last two weeks and I am glad we got something. Now hopefully this can push us to continue performing well,” Akwana said after the victory.

He also praised the resilience of his players especially against a very tough Police side, and he believes they can run into the next few matches with boosted confidence.

Jumaan scored the solo strike in the 35th minute with a brilliant strike after running into a well weighted pass from Abdul Razak Fiston.

Police tried to pressure for an equalizer, but they couldn’t crack a resolute Sofapaka defense line.

At the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, goalkeeper Stephen Ochieng scored into his own net in added time, denying Ulinzi Stars a first back-to-back victory in the FKF Premier League as they played to a 1-1 draw with KCB.

Mark Bikokwa had scored the opener six minutes to time, but Ochieng unluckily put the ball in his own net towards the end of the duel.

“We played very well and we were unfortunate to concede in the last minute of the game. But Overall, I am really impressed with how the team is shaping up and how we have bounced back after that difficult start to the season,” said Anthony Kimani, the Ulinzi Stars head coach.

The military side had overall had a good game, and looked to seal a second win in a row after their last victory at home against Kariobangi Sharks.

They had some good chances and the best of them fell on Boniface Muchiri who saw his brilliant curling freekick kept out by an acrobatic save from Gabriel Andika.

They finally found their goal in the 84th minute when Bikokwa glanced in a header off a brilliant cross from Makwatta.

Their hopes of a victory were however dashed in added time when a curling effort from Herrit Mungai bounced off the crossbar and came off keeper Ochieng’s back and into the net.
