MMA Career
Randy Couture developed passion for combat while still a small boy. During his days at Lynnwood High School, he was a standout wrestler.
From 1982 to 1988, Couture served in the army and was part of the wrestling team. He then attended college and finished in 1992 then became an Olympic alternate afterward. The former military man then decided to pursue a career in MMA.
On 30 May 1997, Randy Couture made his UFC debut at UFC 13 with two matches, defeating both Tony Halme and Steven Graham in the Heavyweight Division Tournament.
Later that year, he faced Vitor Belfort at UFC 15 to determine the number one contender for the UFC Heavyweight Championship. Couture won the fight, with his victory turning out to be one of the biggest upsets in MMA history at the time.

Couture then defeated Maurice Smith to claim the UFC Heavyweight Championship, but would later lose the title due to a contract dispute with UFC. He the fought in Japan for a period of time before returning to UFC to defeat Kevin Randleman and reclaim his title.
Throughout his career, Couture fought against some of the best fighters such as Tito Ortiz, Brock Lesnar and Chuck Liddel. He became a UFC Hall of Famer in 2006 and announced his retirement from MMA at the age of 47 in April 2011.
