Manchester United football director, John Murtough, has disclosed that the club is currently investigating the extensive injury crisis that has plagued their performances this season. Having lost six out of their 11 matches, including both of their Champions League group stage fixtures, United’s season has been deeply affected by the ongoing injury woes.

Key players such as Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Tyrell Malacia, Kobbie Mainoo, and Amad Diallo are currently sidelined for the long term.

In addition, senior defender Raphael Varane and summer signing Mason Mount have also been struggling with prolonged spells on the treatment table.

The situation has been further complicated by the injury of Sergio Reguilon, who was brought in on loan from Tottenham Hotspur as cover for the left-back position.

Murtough cited the unavailability of 16 first-team players for various periods since the beginning of the season, highlighting the substantial impact this has had on the team’s performance. He emphasized the team’s hopeful prospects with some of the injured players gradually returning, including recent acquisitions Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount, who are still integrating into the squad.

Murtough also addressed the varied nature of the injuries, indicating that some were unforeseeable impact injuries, while others were muscular and potentially influenced by the intense schedule over the past year.

Despite the challenging circumstances, United secured a crucial victory just before the October international break, with Scott McTominay netting a dramatic stoppage-time brace in their 2-1 win against Brentford. Looking ahead, United is gearing up for their upcoming fixture against Sheffield United, aiming to turn the tide and regain momentum in the ongoing season.
