Career

Sanju Samson began his cricket career in Delhi where his father was stationed as a police constable. On 3 November 2011, he made his first-class debut playing for the Kerala Ranji team in a match against Vidarbha. The following season, he scored two hundred and fifty in five appearances.

Samson had his breakthrough during the 2013-14 season. In his first match, the north-eastern side of Assam had put a challenging total of 323 runs in the first inning. However, the young cricketer eclipsed Assam’s inning by scoring a career-best 211 to give his team Kerala a vital 39-run lead. He was the highest scorer of the tournament.

Following his impressive performance with Kerala, Samson was selected in the 17-man squad to play against England in 5 ODIs and a T20 in 2014. However, he wasn’t lucky enough to play in the starting eleven.

On 19 July 2015, Samson made his first appearance for India in a T20 match against Zimbabwe. However, he didn’t create the desired impact, managing just 19 runs off 24 deliveries. As a result, he never made an appearance for India until 2020 when he was in the squad playing the T20 series against Australia.

In February 2022, Samson was in India’s T20 squad that played the series against Sri Lanka. He didn’t bat in the first match but scored 39 and 18 in the next two games.
