Manchester United beat Crystal Palace 3-0 last night at Old Trafford to book a spot in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

First-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Casemiro set United on their way to victory before Anthony Martial finished the job in the second half. This is the biggest win the Red Devils have recorded since the start of the 2023-24 season.

Mason Mount started the match and even provided an assist to one of the goals. Sofyan Amrabat also made his first start last night playing as a left-back. The Moroccan midfielder, who is on loan at Manchester United, demonstrated an excellent passing range, ability to stop attacks and plenty of energy in the match.

Andre Onana, who took the blame when Manchester United lost to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, was a spectator for most of the night. However, he made two amazing saves to deny Crystal Palace forward Jean-Phillippe Mateta.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was satisfied with his side’s performance and believes there’s still more to come.

It was a good night, we played quite well and dominated the game. If you don’t win, of course there is frustration and disappointment and the mood is then dropping. But the spirit was always good, the togetherness was there and is there – you could see that today. There’s still a lot to come but we’re moving forward.” BBC Sports quotes Erik ten Hag.

How Manchester United Beat Crystal Palace

Manchester United looked stronger than Crystal Palace from the start of the Carabao Cup match at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening. After several attempts, the opener arrived when Mason Mount sprayed a pass out to Facundo Pellistri, whose lay-off allowed Diego Dalot to pull the ball back for Garnacho to open the scoring from close range.

Brazilian midfielder Casemiro then doubled United’s lead from Mason Mount’s brilliant delivery into the box. Casemiro shook off Jeffrey Schlupp before heading the ball into the far corner.

Mason Mount, who was brilliant throughout the first half, didn’t return after the break as he made way for Victor Lindelof. Nevertheless, United continued to dominate the game and it didn’t take long before Anthony Martial appeared on the scoresheet.

It all started when Amrabat’s attempted cross was cut out and the ball fell to Casemiro, who picked out Anthony Martial for a first-time finish.

Crystal Palace, who were struggling throughout the match, had their first big chance in the 67th minute when Nathaniel Clyne fired a wild shot from a distance.

Manchester United came close to scoring several times afterwards but Palace’s goalkeeper Sam Johnstone made some amazing reflexes to deny Johnny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Garnacho.
