  • Mbappe refused to talk with Al Hilal after they made a world-record bid
  • The forward has declined extending his PSG contract in the latest talks and might leave on a free transfer

Kylian Mbappe has signaled his willingness to forgo a substantial loyalty bonus stipulated in his Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) contract, but he remains steadfast in his decision not to ink a new deal with the club. This summer, Mbappe made it clear that he would not exercise the mutual option to extend his existing contract with PSG until 2025, potentially setting the stage for his departure at the end of the season on a free transfer.

Mbappe’s decision did not sit well with PSG, prompting the club to sideline him from the first team while they sought to offload him to the highest bidder. PSG even accepted a record-breaking transfer offer of €300 million (£259 million) from Al Hilal, a Saudi Pro League side. Surprisingly, Mbappe didn’t even engage in discussions with the Saudi club.

Throughout this ordeal, Mbappe has consistently expressed his desire to complete the current season with PSG before seeking new opportunities, but the club has vehemently opposed the idea of losing him for free.

During discussions with his mother and agent Fayza Lamari, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi went so far as to inform Mbappe that he would never wear a PSG jersey again.

However, in recent weeks, as it became apparent that Mbappe would not secure a move to long-standing admirers Real Madrid this summer, further negotiations have occurred.

PSG has continued to press for Mbappe to sign a new contract, potentially incorporating a release clause that would establish a predetermined fee for his future departure. Yet, it appears that this option is not currently under consideration.

Nevertheless, insiders suggest that Mbappe has agreed to give up an €80 million bonus that PSG had slated to pay him over the course of the current season, resulting in PSG saving an actual €100 million.

With Mbappe now back in the fold on the pitch, PSG’s Al-Khelaifi has once again lauded his star forward, describing him as an extraordinary player and an exceptional person. He also praised the unity of the PSG team, both on and off the field.

Despite this, Mbappe remains unwavering in his refusal to commit to a new contract with PSG. Consequently, the countdown to the end of his tenure in Paris is underway.
