Luke Shaw, who sustained a muscle injury, will be out for an “extended period” for Manchester United.

The full extent of Shaw’s injury continues to be examined by Erik ten Hag’s team, but it appears like Shaw will be out for a sizable amount of time.

According to reports, Manchester United is hoping that Shaw’s injury is going to keep him from missing “weeks rather than months,” but it still represents a significant setback for the Red Devils in the early stages of the 2018 Premier League season.

Shaw was a mainstay in Ten Hag’s lineup last year and has started each of United’s first two games this year. His absence leaves United lacking in defensive depth as fellow left-back Tyrell Malacia is also out injured.
Given Malacia’s absence and the departures of Alex Telles and Brandon Williams this summer, it remains to be seen whether Ten Hag returns to the transfer market to locate a successor for Shaw.

In addition to Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez might fill in as a left-sided fullback.

Gareth Southgate now has additional problems before the start of the international break in September, when England will play Scotland in a friendly three days later and Ukraine on September 9 in a Euro 2024 qualifier.

Levi Colwill of Chelsea or Rico Henry of Brentford, both of whom have been vying for their first call-up in recent months, might benefit from Shaw’s injury given that John Stones and Tyrone Mings are already out for the Three Lions.

Amrabat continues to wait

Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina continues to train by himself despite rumors that he may leave the team this summer.

Amrabat is reportedly a target for numerous teams looking to bolster their midfield before the deadline, with Manchester United and Liverpool both rumored to be interested in acquiring the Moroccan international.

Erik ten Hag used to work with Amrabat at FC Utrecht and is eager to reconnect with the player in the Premier League, but Manchester United have been unable to formalize their interest due to the club’s failure to transfer players like Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay.

The 27-year-old, who is valued in the neighborhood of €30 million and is entering the final year of his contract with Florence, has also drawn interest from Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

As rumors about a move continue, Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Italiano has now acknowledged that Amrabat is training alone and that the Moroccan has not gone with the team to play Rapid Wien in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.
