Cale Yarborough made his first attempt to enter NASCAR while still at high school. However, hie efforts bore no fruits because it was discovered that he had lied about his age.
Yarborough didn’t give up on his dreams of becoming a driver and eventually made his debut in 1957 at the Southern 500. He would finish 42nd in his debut race due to hub problems.
In 1962, Yarborough recorded his first top 10 finish at the Daytona 500 Qualifying Race. By 1967, he had emerged victorious at the Atlanta 500, the Firecracker 400 and the Daytona 500. At the Michigan International Speedway, he won his first NASCAR race.

Yarborough continued to impress in the 1970s, gaining fame due to his skills behind the wheel. The legendary driver had his best year in 1977 when he represented his nine-race winning streak and finished every race he competed in. He also won his second Winston Cup that same year.
Yarborough was still a big name in the 1980s. The American won his third Daytona 500 in 1983 and fourth the following year. He entered his final season in 1988 and placed ninth in two out of the 10 races he participated in.
