After his playing career, he became an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns. He was named the coach of the Vancouver Grizzlies leading the Grizzlies to the playoffs for two consecutive seasons.
In six out of seven seasons as a head coach of the Grizzlies, he led them to playoffs including a Western Conference Finals appearance.
